End of Stamp Duty Land Tax Holiday

End of Stamp Duty Land Tax Holiday

Thursday 30 September saw the final day on which the Stamp Duty Land Tax relief was applicable. The second phase of the SDLT holiday has now ended and will revert back to its previous thresholds, which you will need to take into account if you are considering moving home:

£0-£125,00 – 0%

£125,001 – £250,000 – 2%

£250,001-£925,000 – 5%

£925,001 – £1,500,000 – 10%

£1,500,001+ – 12%

*First time buyers are still exempt from paying stamp duty on the first £300,000.

* The figures are based on a purchase of a single property or a replacement dwelling and higher rates may apply, if it is the purchase of a second/investment property.

The SDLT holiday was introduced on 8 July 2021 to stimulate and keep the property market alive throughout the pandemic. It has done just that and in many cases much more with record house prices being reached in recent months.
